ELLIE & BILLY
Stone Barn, Cotswolds
I arrived at Stone Barn around 1.15 pm on the wedding day, get spending a brief 45 minutes with Ellie photographing her final touches. Upon arriving at Stone Barn I was greeted by a crisp, dry breeze and soft daylight, the kind of afternoon that hinted at sunshine rather than grey skies. The familiar barn felt magical again: flagstone floors, timber beams, and that warm rustic charm underpinned the day’s mood.
Walking in, the table setup (styled by the bride’s family) caught my eye. Classy yet understated, with deep maroon and dark green accents softly balanced by touches of pink and red in the flowers. The flower girls’ white dresses brought a youthful purity to the palette. Inside the wedding breakfast room, a handful of candles added calm elegance rather than opulence, simple, refined, timeless.
By ceremony time the wind had given way to rain, and showers dominated much of the afternoon. But wedding days have a little magic of their own, as we slipped in a quick portrait session the rain stopped, and a beautiful sky emerged just in time. That fleeting golden moment, though brief, added a special glow to the couple portraits.
My favourite moments of the day? There was a warm, touching exchange between the bride and her grandfather after the confetti walk. I felt real connection, and a memory I know the couple will cherish forever. Another highlight: Billy walking his bride’s mum down the aisle, a lovely nod to family and tradition. Amid it all, the bride’s grandmother quietly documented her own series of photos, and watching her photograph moments as intently as I was made everything feel just that bit more intimate.
What struck me throughout was how this wedding balanced relaxed fun with understated elegance. The atmosphere felt calm during the ceremony, warm and full of feeling over dinner, then slowly shifted into energy and joy as the evening party began. For photos I mixed natural light with direct flash for a few of the “Vogue-style” portraits the bride requested, while most of the day’s moments were captured in the soft, warm glow of candlelight. Perfect for creating timeless, atmospheric images.
In the evening, among laughter and dancing, a vintage car belonging to a friend of the groom made a cameo appearance. Those images turned out beautifully and are some of my favourites from the sneak peek gallery.
I’m excited for the couple to share these moments, from emotional gestures to playful evening fun and for friends and family to rediscover what it felt like that day.
