There is something particularly special about a London pub wedding. The combination of an intimate setting, familiar surroundings and the people who matter most creates an atmosphere that feels effortlessly personal. For Steph and Will, The Rosendale in West Dulwich provided exactly that. Their wedding brought together elegant bridal styling, a heartfelt ceremony, beautiful florals and a wonderfully relaxed celebration with their closest friends and family. As a London wedding photographer, these are the celebrations I particularly enjoy documenting. The moments that happen naturally, the unexpected interactions and the little details that make every wedding entirely individual. A relaxed morning of bridal preparations The morning began at a nearby Airbnb, where Steph was getting ready surrounded by her bridal party and family. When I arrived, I was warmly welcomed by Steph’s father before making my way into the wonderful atmosphere of bridal preparations. Hair and makeup were already underway, with the talented Charlie Mac looking after the girls. Between the hairdryers, makeup brushes and the occasional change of chairs, the morning unfolded naturally. It was the perfect opportunity to capture those quieter moments of anticipation alongside the excitement of getting ready. Before long, it was time for Steph to step into her wedding dress. Her gown, from Lovespell Bridal, was a beautifully understated, off-the-shoulder design. Elegant in its simplicity, it complemented Steph perfectly and suited the relaxed sophistication of their London wedding. Once the final buttons were fastened, we arranged a first look with her father on the patio. His reaction was everything you could hope for. A genuinely emotional moment and one of those wonderful interactions that remind me why I love documentary wedding photography. No elaborate direction, just a father seeing his daughter in her wedding dress for the first time. An intimate wedding ceremony at The Rosendale, Dulwich With everyone ready, the bridal party made their way to The Rosendale with Addison Lee. I travelled ahead to capture the atmosphere before the ceremony and photograph Will as he waited for Steph’s arrival. There was a wonderful sense of anticipation as guests found their places, the ceremony approached and everyone waited for the bride. Steph arrived with her bridesmaids, and the celebrations could officially begin. Their ceremony was intimate and personal, with two readings delivered by close friends and family. Following the exchange of vows and the signing of the register, Steph and Will were officially married. It was a lovely example of how a London pub wedding can combine the significance of a traditional wedding ceremony with a more relaxed and intimate atmosphere. Garden drinks and natural wedding photography Following the ceremony, the newlyweds and their guests made their way into The Rosendale’s secluded garden for drinks and canapés. This is always one of my favourite parts of a wedding day to photograph. The formalities of the ceremony are over, everyone has a drink in hand, and the couple finally has an opportunity to enjoy being married. Steph and Will’s drinks reception was filled with conversation, laughter and guests enjoying the occasion together. Rather than interrupting these moments, my approach is to quietly observe and document the celebration as it unfolds. The hugs, spontaneous laughter and little interactions often become some of the most meaningful photographs from the entire day. The Rosendale’s outdoor spaces offer a lovely setting for this part of a wedding, allowing guests to move naturally between the gardens and the venue. Elegant wedding details and heartfelt speeches As the afternoon continued, everyone gathered for the wedding breakfast. The reception room had been beautifully styled, with floral arrangements created by Will’s parents and carefully considered tablescapes that complemented the wedding’s colour palette. These personal touches are often what make a wedding feel truly individual. Having family members contribute to the styling made the setting even more meaningful. Before dinner, guests enjoyed speeches from one of Steph’s bridesmaids and Will’s best man. There was a wonderful balance of sentiment and humour, with plenty of laughter alongside some genuinely touching moments. From a photographer’s perspective, speeches provide an incredible opportunity to capture real emotion. The reactions are often just as important as the person delivering the speech, whether that’s a knowing smile, an unexpected burst of laughter or a particularly emotional moment. These are the photographs that tell the story beyond the traditional wedding portraits. An evening of live music and celebrations Following the wedding breakfast, guests returned downstairs while the reception room was transformed for the evening celebrations. With live entertainment from Juno and the Watts, the atmosphere shifted from an intimate afternoon gathering to an evening of music and celebration. It’s one of the things I particularly enjoy about photographing weddings in London. Venues like The Rosendale allow couples to create a wedding that feels elegant without being overly formal, bringing together beautiful surroundings and a genuinely relaxed atmosphere. DANIELLE & MIKE Chelsea Town Hall & Sunnningdale in Ascot DANIELLE & MIKE DANIELLE & MIKES CHELSEA TOWN HALL & ASCOT MARQUEE WEDDING TO VIEW THE Wedding GALLERY CLICK – HERE Mike & Danielle’s Chelsea Town Hall and Sunningdale Wedding Celebration There is no single blueprint for planning a wedding anymore, and Mike and Danielle’s celebration was a perfect reminder that the best weddings are the ones that reflect the couple at the centre of them. Rather than fitting everything into one day, they chose to spread their celebrations across two weekends. The result was a wedding that felt relaxed, personal and entirely true to them. The first chapter began on 16th May with an intimate legal ceremony at Chelsea Town Hall, followed a week later by a joyful celebration with family and friends at Mike’s parents’ home in Sunningdale. As a editorial wedding photographer with a documentary eye, these are exactly the kinds of celebrations I love to photograph: thoughtful, relaxed and full of genuine moments. An Intimate Ceremony at Chelsea Town Hall Mike and Danielle kept their legal ceremony wonderfully simple. Surrounded by their closest family and friends, they exchanged vows at Chelsea Town Hall before stepping out into the streets of West London as newlyweds. Instead of rushing away to a reception, we spent some time wandering through Chelsea together, making the most of the elegant townhouses, colourful shopfronts and quiet side streets that give this part of London its unmistakable character. There is something timeless about wedding portraits in Chelsea. The iconic front steps, beautiful architecture and spontaneous moments crossing the road between locations created a collection of images that felt effortlessly stylish while remaining authentic to who they are as a couple. The celebrations continued with drinks and speeches at The Fox & Pheasant on Billing Road before I left them to enjoy the rest of the evening with their guests. A Week Later: A Garden Celebration in Sunningdale On 23rd May, the celebrations continued in Sunningdale. Danielle spent the morning getting ready at the Royal Berkshire Hotel, where one of the most emotional moments of the day unfolded during a first look with her parents. After a relaxed morning, she made her way to Mike’s family home, where guests had gathered for an informal outdoor ceremony held on the driveway. With clear blue skies overhead and the warm May sunshine in full force, the ceremony perfectly reflected the relaxed atmosphere Mike and Danielle had envisioned. A close friend led proceedings, another friend shared a reading, and the couple exchanged rings once more in front of their favourite people. There was no pressure to follow tradition for tradition’s sake. Every part of the day felt intentional, personal and genuinely meaningful. A Sail Tent Reception Filled with Sunshine and Smiles Following the ceremony, guests moved into the beautiful sail tent in the garden for drinks, canapés and the wedding breakfast. Long trestle tables encouraged conversation and created a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere throughout the afternoon. As the golden light settled over the garden, guests enjoyed incredible food, heartfelt speeches and plenty of laughter. Despite photographing weddings for many years, I still love how quickly days like this unfold. Fourteen hours passed in what felt like a moment. From emotional embraces to spontaneous dance floor moments, there was always something happening. An Unforgettable Evening Party As the sun began to set, the energy shifted effortlessly from laid-back garden party to full-scale celebration. Twisted Remix kept the dance floor packed from the moment they started playing. Beneath the disco ball and surrounded by family and friends, guests danced long into the night. The atmosphere inside the sail tent was electric. For me, some of the best photographs of the day came during these final hours — the unfiltered laughter, the singing, the movement and the moments that no one plans for but everyone remembers. Planning Your Wedding Your Way Mike and Danielle’s wedding was a perfect example of why couples should never feel tied to a traditional timeline or format. By separating their legal ceremony from their larger celebration, they created space to enjoy both experiences fully. The result was two completely different days, each with its own atmosphere and energy, but together they told one incredible story. Relaxed, elegant and full of personality, their day blended traditional London wedding moments with a modern editorial feel that suited them perfectly. The day began in Surbiton, with Lara getting ready alongside her six bridesmaids at a nearby Airbnb on Cadogan Road, while Tom spent the morning with his groomsmen at their flat on Maple Road. In true Richmond fashion, the boys even managed to fit in a cycle ride around Richmond Park before getting ready for the day ahead. From the very beginning, everything felt relaxed and genuinely joyful. There was no sense of rushing or over planning, just two people completely excited to marry each other surrounded by family and friends who clearly adored them. A Traditional Ceremony at St Andrews Church, Surbiton Lara & Tom chose St Andrews Church in Surbiton for their ceremony, a beautiful traditional church service filled with hymns, readings and plenty of emotion. With around 100 guests filling the church, the atmosphere felt warm, intimate and incredibly welcoming despite the soaring temperatures outside. Lara looked effortlessly elegant in her gown from Emily Grace Bridal, paired with Anthropologie shoes and jewellery from Taylor & Hart. Tom wore a striking green suit layered beneath classic black tails from King & Allen, giving the day a subtle editorial edge that photographed beautifully throughout. The floral arrangements by Flourishing Temple and Louise Nadal perfectly complemented the soft, romantic feel of the day. Loose white and pale blue florals filled the church with texture and movement, adding to the timeless atmosphere of the ceremony. Following the service, guests gathered outside for confetti before the celebrations moved towards Richmond. Vintage London Buses & Summer Drinks at Pembroke Lodge One of the standout moments of the day was watching guests board two vintage red London buses waiting outside the church. It immediately gave the wedding that unmistakable London character while also setting the tone for the relaxed celebrations ahead. Once everyone arrived at Pembroke Lodge, the atmosphere became instantly social and celebratory. The combination of sunshine, champagne, Pimms and Aperol Spritz created the kind of summer wedding energy you can’t really plan for, guests spread across the gardens chatting, laughing and soaking in the heatwave conditions. Pembroke Lodge is always one of my favourite London wedding venues to photograph because it offers such a balance between elegance and calm. Tucked within Richmond Park, it somehow manages to feel close to London while still offering space, greenery and beautiful natural light throughout the day. Editorial Portraits in the Gardens Throughout the wedding, Lara & Tom were incredibly easy to photograph together. They had a calmness around each other that made every portrait feel natural rather than staged, and it was obvious how perfectly matched they were. We spent some time exploring the gardens at Pembroke Lodge for portraits during the afternoon and later returned outside for golden hour photographs once the light softened slightly. After sunset portraits, Lara changed into a second dress ready for the evening celebrations, bringing a more relaxed party atmosphere into the second half of the day. The entire wedding balanced documentary moments with subtle editorial styling effortlessly. Nothing felt overly posed or performative just stylish, genuine moments unfolding naturally around them. A Dancefloor Nobody Wanted to Leave As the evening arrived and temperatures finally dropped, the energy inside completely shifted. Truly Medley Deeply kept the dancefloor packed all evening with a brilliant mix of medleys and singalongs, creating one of the most energetic wedding parties I’ve photographed in a long time. By the time Robbie Williams’ Angels played, Lara & Tom were surrounded by their guests singing every word back at them one of those wedding moments that perfectly captures how loved a couple really are. It was chaotic in the very best way. Exactly the kind of ending a wedding like this deserved. One of the most moving moments came from Jessica’s brother, who delivered a speech on behalf of her father, who was unable to speak himself. It was honest, heartfelt and had the entire room completely absorbed, a reminder that these quieter, unscripted moments are often the most powerful parts of the day.
